Pernand Premier Cru "Clos du Village"
After tens years of preliminary studies, tastings and soil analyses, the Institut National des Appellations d'Origine (I.N.A.O) chose to classify a dozen hectares on the Pernand-Vergelesses commune as white Premier Cru. The efforts of generations of wine-growers in Pernand, as well as the winegrowers association, were finally rewarded by the 2000 harvest.
The name Pernand possibly stems from the Gallic nanto, "stream, valley", preceded either by the Latin base petra, "stone", or the Gallic petru, "four". Pernand can then be either the village of the four valleys, the village located at the crossroads or at a distance of four "bornes" (6 km) from Beaune.
White wine vinification : we bring in the grapes in small crates to keep them intact. The pressing is carried out with a pneumatic press which is less damaging to the grapes. The whole grapes are placed in the press and the pressing lasts for two hours. After 24 hours settling at low temperatures, the grape juice is transferred into barrels to ferment, the proportion of new barrels being 30 %. Ageing on lees with stirring lasts until July and the wine is bottled after 12 months of ageing.
The "Clos du Village", right in the heart of the village, only a few meters from the church, and hidden from view by beautiful dry-stone walls, is exclusively harvested by our estate, having the monopoly. In this enclosure the Chardonnay thrives splendidly, protected from the wind and benefiting from a gentle slope, a shallow soil and an exceptional exposure.
The wines are fruity and present a high level of aromatic richness.
They are rich, powerful. You can enjoy them with great pleasure in their youth or keep them for two to five years. The Pernand goes well with fish, white meat and cheese (comté fruité).
